TYLER — Join the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) at Tyler Nature Center for the East Texas Fire and Nature Festival on Saturday, October 10, to learn about nature and prescribed fire.
The East Texas Fire and Nature Festival is a free event for all ages with live prescribed fire demonstrations (weather permitting), hands-on fire equipment, and kids’ activities highlighting wildlife and science, especially for the Pineywoods. Learn why fire is an important part of the ecosystem alongside wildland fire trucks, vehicles and equipment used in prescribed fire and suppression work. Opportunities to join nature walks will be available throughout the day.
A previous festivalgoer said they “loved the variety of things to do for kids of all ages! My toddler had a great time seeing all the different booths and activities!”
The event will take place on Saturday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Tyler Nature Center, located at 11942 FM 848, Tyler, TX 75707.
Danielle Okay, Regional Interpretive Specialist for Texas State Parks said, “We are so excited to offer this event for the third time. We have more partner groups than ever before and are looking forward to spreading the good word about fire within our local community.”
This event is a collaborative effort between the following organizations to bring the benefits of prescribed fire to the public: Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Texas A&M Forest Service, The Nature Conversancy, Quail Forever, American Bird Conservancy, Smith County Soil & Water Conservation District, Smith County Emergency Service District 2, Oaks and Prairies Joint Venture, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Tall Timbers, Smith County Fire Marshal, Master Naturalist & Gardeners, Take Care of Texas (Keep All Saints Beautiful), East Texas Prescribed Burn Association, NE TX Grazing Land Coalition, Lone Star Fly Fishers, Environment Texas Research & Policy Center, Texas Brigades, Chapel Hill VFD, & Southern Fire Exchange.
