ADOT’s Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory (Aug. 21-24)

PHOENIX – Closures or lane restrictions are scheduled along several Phoenix-area freeways this weekend (Aug. 21-24), according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Drivers should allow extra travel time and use detour routes as needed for these improvement project restrictions:

  • Eastbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) closed between 51st Avenue and Interstate 17 in the Northwest Valley from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 24) for widening project. Eastbound Loop 101 on-ramps at 75th, 67th and 59th avenues closed. The eastbound Loop 101 “Texas U-Turn” on-ramp near Union Hills Drive also closed. Detours: Consider exiting ahead of the closure and using eastbound Bell Road or Union Hills Drive to travel beyond the closure.
  • Westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) closed between Lindsay and McQueen roads in the Southeast Valley from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 24) for widening project. Westbound Loop 202 on-ramps at Williams Field Road, SanTan Village Parkway and Val Vista Drive also closed. Detours: Consider using westbound Williams Field, Pecos or Germann roads to travel beyond the closure. Westbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) is an alternate freeway route.
  • Southbound State Route 51 narrowed to two lanes between Bethany Home and Indian School roads from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 24) for pavement improvement project. Southbound SR 51 on-ramp at Highland Avenue and off-ramp at Indian School Road closed. Allow extra travel time. Detours: Consider using southbound Interstate 17 as an alternate freeway route to downtown Phoenix. Reminder: Northbound SR 51 is currently narrowed to two left lanes around-the-clock near Camelback Road for pavement replacement work. Consider using northbound I-17.
  • Northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) ramp to westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) in the Tempe/Mesa area closed from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 24) for pavement improvement project. Detours: Consider exiting ahead of the ramp closure and using alternate routes, including westbound McKellips Road to southbound McClintock Drive, to connect with westbound Loop 202.
  • State Route 347 narrowed to one lane in both directions between Casa Blanca Road and Mammoth Way (Cement Plant Road) north of the City of Maricopa from 8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (Aug. 24) for paving. Allow extra travel time and be prepared to slow down and merge safely when approaching and traveling through all work zones.

ADOT plans and constructs new freeways, additional lanes and other improvements in the Phoenix area as part of the Regional Transportation Plan for the Maricopa County region.

Most improvement projects are currently funded in part by Proposition 400, a dedicated sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004. Voters also approved Proposition 479 in November 2024, extending the existing half-cent tax to fund future transportation projects in the Phoenix region.

Reminder: Real-time highway conditions are available on ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information site at AZ511.gov, the az511 app (download for Apple or Android devices) or by calling 511.
