Governor Abbott Announces Over $7.7 Million In Grants To North Texas Area Veteran Service Organizations

Governor Greg Abbott today announced $7,746,000 in Funds for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) grants have been awarded to 28 organizations in the North Texas region as part of the Texas Veterans Commission's (TVC) Grants Across Texas Tour. Administered by TVC, the funding will provide services to an estimated more than 4,900 local veterans.

“Texas will always support the brave men and women who fought for the freedom and liberties we enjoy today,” said Governor Abbott. “These grants will provide crucial support and services to veterans and their families in the DFW area. We are proud to support our nation's heroes and help them prosper for generations to come.”

“I sincerely thank each of our grant recipients for their commitment to serving our veterans,” said TVC Commission Secretary and Marine veteran Chuck Wright. “North Texas and the Dallas-Fort Worth area are home to a large veteran population and robust military presence. It is great to see the community give back to those who served our country.”

The FVA grant recipients and their services include:

• Canine Companions for Independence: $300,000 for their Service Dog Program
• Citizens Development Center: $201,000 for Trade Skills Training

  • $400,000 for Veterans Treatment Court
  • $100,000 for Misdemeanor Veterans Treatment Court
  • $50,000 for Financial Assistance
  • $400,000 for Clinical Counseling 
• Dallas County: $400,000 for Veterans Treatment Court 
• Denton County: $327,000 for Veterans Treatment Court 
• Denton County MHMR Center: $150,000 for Non-Clinical Mental Health Services
• Ellis County: $200,000 for Veterans Treatment Court 
• Equest: $120,000 for Clinical Counseling
• Family Pathfinders of Tarrant County: $136,000 for Financial Assistance
• Garland Area Habitat for Humanity: $250,000 for Housing for Texas Heroes 
• Jake E’s Riding Round Up: $135,000 for Clinical Counseling 
• Meals on Wheels and Senior Services: $147,000 for Food Meal Services

• Patriot Paws Service Dogs: $400,000 for Service Dog Program

• Spay Neuter Network: $300,000 for Pet Lodging & Veterinary Care 
• Tarrant County: $397,000 for Veterans Treatment Court 
• Texas Neighborhood Services: $250,000 for Financial Assistance 
• Texoma Council of Governments: $100,000 for Financial Assistance 
• The Visiting Nurse Association for Texas: $75,000 for Food Meal Services
• United Way of Tarrant County: $200,000 for Elder Care 
• Veterans Healthcare Alliance: $30,000 for Trade Skills Training 
• Volunteers of America Texas: $275,000 for Financial Assistance

In May, TVC Commissioners approved 190 grants totaling more than $40.8 million to 160 organizations across Texas. These grants are anticipated to provide direct services to more than 125,600 veterans, their dependents, and surviving spouses across Texas.

Since 2009 through the current 2026-2027 grant cycle, over $400 million in grant funding has been awarded through 1,790 FVA grants.

The grants support a wide range of services from emergency financial assistance to transportation, legal services to family support services, and home modification to rental and mortgage assistance.
